Description:

This purpose of this 1 credit hour course is to further discuss sustainable, low energy/low carbon construction with participants already familiar with high performance building enclosure principles. This course will discuss in technical detail how building enclosure design can be leveraged not only for better energy efficiency, but also to provide better indoor air and overall environmental quality. The presenters will share their experience utilizing sustainable building strategies such as Passive House, Fitwell, and RESET Air to guide client driven solutions as well as how the actual performance of these solutions can be measured during building operation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Provide an in-depth review of the building enclosure's role in low energy, low carbon construction.

  2. Discuss the critical relationships between building enclosure, HVAC, and renewable energy systems.

  3. Review how building science, energy modeling, and data science are evolving to address modern energy and health related construction challenges.

  4. Explore a case study of building enclosure features on a commercial building retrofit project.
